Many companies are turning to outsourcing to streamline operations, focus internal resources, access new technologies and reduce costs. Despite the obvious advantages, there are many challenges in successfully managing outsourcing—particularly in the areas of security and data privacy. Increasingly, we find that our clients have important questions regarding the risks and challenges of managing security in today’s sophisticated outsourcing relationships. We hope to develop deeper insight into these security issues by asking for the perspectives of the customers that purchase outsourcing services.

We appreciate the sensitivity of this topic and recognize that there may be information regarding your security practices that you are not comfortable sharing. In crafting this survey, we worked hard to avoid questions that require the revelation of detailed information about your specific security practices and capabilities. Instead, we designed our questions to gather your insights and perspectives regarding the critical security issues and challenges that vendors in the outsourcing industry must address. We think this will provide a useful perspective on the role that security plays in shaping and evaluating outsourcing strategy. In addition, we hope to identify opportunities for improvement that will help guide the outsourcing industry as it invests to strengthen security capabilities in the years ahead. We hope our findings help structure a more informed debate and ultimately give the participants of this survey insight they need to make better outsourcing decisions.
